![]() ![]() Extreme high or low temperatures are rare. Several days of abundant rainfall can cause floods. Along the lower elevations on the immediate coast, annual precipitation is between 65 to 90 inches, but on higher elevations on the west slopes, it can be up to 200 inches. The Oregon Pacific coastal zone is characterized by wet winters, relatively dry summers and mild temperatures all year. These winds from the ocean bring heavy rainfall in winter and fog in the summer. Westerly winds are predominant from the northwest during the summer and from the southwest in the winter. Summers are generally cool and winters are moderate. The North Coast Region of Oregon has a climate with strong marine influences. Surrounding areas: Cape Meares, Oregon (2.2 mi), Netarts, Oregon (3.0 mi), Mount Hood, Oregon (5.1 mi), Tillamook, Oregon (6.9 mi), Three Capes, Oregon (8.7 mi), Rockaway Beach, Oregon (10.6 mi), Tierra Del Mar, Oregon (14.7 mi) The nearby town of Newport has a historic waterfront, a picturesque harbor and bridge, great seafood restaurants and excellent pier and ocean fishing. Two historic lighthouses are also just 20 miles from Seal Rock. You can fish off the rocks, explore tide pools, watch seals and sea lions frolicking in the surf, collect driftwood on the beach, search for agates, dig for clams and crabs. The beautiful beaches are the big draw though. Nearby attractions include the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center. The town has several antique stores and specialty shops to explore, and Seal Rock is home to many artists who operate art galleries in the town. The community of Seal Rock is small, but offers a variety of things to see and do. There is one large rock that rises about 20 feet out of the water, and several smaller ones at the shoreline. The town got its' name from the "seal rocks" that form a ledge of partially submerged rocks in the ocean that extend parallel to the coast for about two and a half miles. It's the kind of place to visit if you're looking for lots of rest and relaxation - and uncrowded, gorgeous beaches. Seal-Rock is a coastal city located along Highway 101, just south of Newport and near the Siuslaw National Forest.
